In Memorium: Debi D'Apice
Debi D’Apice, long-time member and ctive participant of Eastlake Women’s Club, Lake Erie district (where she served as president), and GFWC-Ohio (serving as state chairman multiple times), friend, mentor, and guiding light to many of us, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Her dedication and enthusiam for our organization, her willingness to serve, and her bright and cheerful personality will be greatly missed. The following is her obituary as it appears on the Monreal Srnick Funeral Home website.
Debi, age 75, was the greatest human in the world. She was beloved wife to Richard for 54 love and laughter filled years. Their relationship was the rare ideal of true love everyone wishes they could have. She was treasured mother of Doriann, who was her Dolly, and they would always do fun activities and watch their shows together. She would always say to Doriann, "Dolly, the right side of your hair looks good." Debi was the greatest joy in both their lives. For Richard and Doriann, Debi was the reason why there's no place like home. Debi passed away peacefully on June 27, leaving a void her family will never fill. Debi is survived by her husband, Richard, daughter, Doriann, cat, Figgy Pudding, sisters, Ruth (Tony) Stiger and Cynthia (Bill) Stoerkel as well as many nieces and nephews. Debi was born in Lewistown, PA in 1949 to Rudolf and Frances Ucic. Debi said that the best people came from PA. She graduated from Collinwood HS and then she graduated from nursing college in Lake County. She began her career at Cleveland Loan Exchange, where Debi loved her boss so much, she named Doriann after her. She worked as an obstetric nurse at Lake East Hospital where she would frequently get yelled at by her supervisor for spending too much time with her patients and for being too kind. She then worked at Eastlake Middle School as the school nurse where she built incredible relationships with all the students and her colleagues. Debi always said she loved all her jobs. Debi was a vibrant little bubble, magically always sparkling with life. She would frequently enter a room proclaiming, "Ladies! Ladies! We can do this!!" Debi was a hugely respected and highly involved member of the GFWC Ohio Eastlake Women's Club for 44 years. She was currently the State Chair for Education and Libraries. She also had multiple positions on various city, district and state levels. She frequently gave creative presentations with beautiful display boards and would even have buttons/pens/trinkets that people could take away with them. She was always encouraging others to "bee happy." Debi would frequently send all her friends e-cards, celebrating no special occasion in particular but maybe just because it was a Tuesday. Debi could frequently go for a pickle while drinking her Crayola pops. If you were to meet Debi for the first time, you might hear, "Hi! I'm Debi. I believe in Jesus Christ, angels, and Santa Claus." Because she did. Debi loved her city of Eastlake and Christmas so much; she was Mrs. Claus for the city for close to 20 years. Debi was a devout and thoughtful parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene. Debi would frequently say her rosary, as well as the phrases, "Thank you, Jesus!" and "Praise God!" Her church friends loved her as much as everyone else did. Family and friends will be received Friday, July 5, 2024, from 4 to 8 pm at Monreal Srnick Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd. Her funeral mass will be Saturday, July 6, 2024, 10:30 am at St. Mary Magdalene 32114 Vine St. Debi was the brightest angel on this earth. Now she's our literal angel.
